Medical Photographer, for telling his research on light and reflections

DANILO SUSI, artist, photographer originally from Pescara, has starred with Charles D'Orta, Roman artist, the exhibition " Abstract parallels " open until January 30 in Pescara, in the suggestive location of 'Aurum.

Class 1949, gastroenterologist doctor, Danilo Susi is chairman of the MFA (Italian photographers Medical Association). Self-taught, began photographing in the 70 teachers attending the Moder and Simoncelli Rondanini Gallery of Pescara and Rome. Fter a long time amateur, during which he founded in the first fotoclub Termoli in Molise region and represents the Italian Federation of Photographic Associations FIAF-NOR-2004 began a special research on light and reflections "distorted" the water is born so "ACQUASTRATTA" which is his last original photographic production. Susi is that of a search that, starting from almost abstract picture comes to trials, much closer to painting. In 2010, the project creates "parallel abstraction" along with Charles D'Orta, which combines the photographic experimentation in the balance between fantasy and reality, representation and art, always through the medium of the reflecting surface, in particular water for Susi and glass for D'Orta. This latest production of photographs by Danilo Susi are witnessing a very real expressive painting, with careful selection of those who decide to "analyze" through the lens, the colors more significant and more versatile. The result is a photograph of a very modern, totally abstract, which some almost touching the conceptual and minimalism.

- Speaking of ACQUASTRATTA, tell us how and where the idea was born.

The year 2004 is a "turning point" for my photographic expression, thanks to new digital technology that allows you to innovate. Start a search for color in the reflections of the water according to the impressionism of Claude Monet. In this way, I produce a series of highly abstract images painted without any modification or processing of editing, that is without the so-called post-production room "clear."

Born in 2008 so "ACQUASTRATTA," a term coined in the exhibition catalog with the "Luxardo Gallery in Rome, curated by Eva Clausen. I feel that the creative process is in nature, water, one with atavistic primordial element generator sacred feminine life nasconoimmagini so true to life in form and color. I try to capture the forms "abstract" that are shattered on the undulating surface of the water, discovering a changing world, intangible as a stream of thoughts.

- All born from a reflection on the water and light so ...

It 'an item dear to me, and the idea of photographing the reflection of light on the water surface as a rather' one of my "invention", also decided to make a mark: ACQUASTRATTA is deposited in the ' IPTO (CB Chamber of Commerce). I then produced several series of pictures, a book and, in limited editions, even silk scarves and porcelain.

I read a phrase from my catalog for the exhibition of Roman ACQUASTRATTA, I think it summarizes very well the basic principle:

"You try to look ahead, to contemplate, to understand. ... I ... I stopped on the edge of the water first, there where the surfaces in unison There, they meet, reflect, mingle ... it's a different world, again, the colors are, be, change forever ... a short breeze or under the flight of a gull, break down and then back together in the same tone ever, more dark happier, according to the light that dominates. Discover a real busy living life to watch ... button remains spellbound, while knowing that your wrong ... who knows where ... "

- Abstraction as an alternative to the world around "... yet, just part of the world, but one of its elements, water. There is perhaps a little desire to "get" physically and chemically in the element?

The idea for "Identity of water", the show that I presented recently in Lecce, was actually born from a reflection on the water chemistry. If the man, to be recognized, has always needed his "identity card" as personal connotation, but the water has no shape or color: there are many "waters" with a single chemical formula. On that occasion I tried to identify them and in fact I have "created" the first four identities of water: each has a "face", a name-progressive, an approval number, a color, its height, a special sign. They are not clones, they are "water", recognized and identified, an abstraction from the simple fact that I was able to rework it.


- His idea of "abstract art" in photography is perhaps a willingness to confront the intentions and especially with the results of the painting?


Photography is not as simple representation of reality but a means to create alternative visions that can excite and make us dream. And 'trying to capture the reflection of light on water, making pictures of the vibration of color as in a painting by Monet. Depriving the image of concrete benchmarks and you have a recognizable effect very similar to abstract painting.


- Let's talk about technique in particular. How does the digital lens to get these abstract effects?

It is not the objective to create digital effects, could also make them with machines and similar objectives. The difference is the light, as always, in its various stages, inclinations ... digital vision helps me as a whole and in the rapidity of results.

- How important was the source of Pescara and the proximity of the sea to the idea of analyzing it "deeply" the water?

Definitely live in seaside towns like Pescara, where I was born, and Termoli, where I work, I facilitated the approach to the water and with the reflection that I have gained around it. In any case, my images are taken from the river, as the series' U n river two names, "which refers to Aterno-Pescara river, and others are reflections of the lake and swimming pool ... the key is still water.
